Need Healthy School Food Resources? Check Out The Lunch Box
It’s finally ready! School Lunch Talk co-editor Ann Cooper has launched The Lunch Box, a comprehensive online toolbox for improving school food. The site gives schools, parents and advocates everything they need to switch from processed foods to healthy, from-scratch cooking in a cost-effective manner. Resources range from recipes and kitchen math training, to sample budgets and videos on proper knife skills. The site is free and open to all and promises to be a great tool for anybody looking to bring change to school food.
Cooper is partnering with Whole Foods to promote the site, and if you shop there in the next month you’ll have an opportunity to make a donation to support the project. The co-president of Whole Foods will also join Cooper in Washington DC to ask Congress to strengthen school nutrition regulations and provide more funding for cafeterias. And in September, Cooper will give talks in Whole Foods stores in Chicago, Atlanta and Houston to promote change on the local level.
